The house of Murphy

Phillip Murphy.
A Texas original.

Some people follow a tradition.
Others give it something to wear.

Horses crossing the rolling green hills of an imagined Texas ranch.

A buckle can hold more than a belt. It can hold the feeling of belonging. That is the simple, enduring idea at the heart of Phillip Murphy’s work.

A Houston native raised around the rodeo, Phillip built his name around an object people could take with them: a reminder of a place, an achievement, a community. The buckle became the beginning of the story, rather than its end.

Call him Phillip. Around the rodeo, call him Bubba. His is a distinctly Texas kind of presence: familiar rather than formal, personal rather than precious. The work may catch the light. The name behind it keeps its feet on the ground.

Phillip’s Houston roots and buckle tradition are documented in the Houston Chronicle’s 2007 profile.

A family name.
A shared responsibility.

Texas roots. Generations forward.
Our next chapter

Rooted in Texas.
Carried forward
as a family.

Murphy is a multigenerational Texas family brand. Our next chapter begins with respect for the one Phillip built.

For us, carrying a family name means keeping the relationship personal: an honest conversation, a considered choice and pride in what bears that name.

The expression can evolve. The character should not.

The beginnings

A tradition takes shape.

1958

A family introduction.

Phillip attends his first Houston rodeo with his father.

1979

An idea with staying power.

He imagines a buckle that carries the pride of the rodeo badge beyond the season.

1980

The badge, reimagined.

The 1980 rodeo badge becomes a Murphy buckle.

Today

The family carries on.

A Texas brand looks forward, without leaving its roots behind.

Historical milestones: Houston Chronicle, 2018; Chron, 2025. Family continuity reflects the company’s own story.
“I wanted them to have something to wear when it wasn’t rodeo season.”
Phillip Murphy   /   Houston Chronicle, 2018

We like things with a sense of place. Good leather. A silver detail that catches the light. Pieces that are as comfortable with a jacket as they are with a favorite pair of jeans.

A beautiful buckle should never feel borrowed from someone else’s life. It should feel unmistakably like your own.
